Why hadn’t I had this idea years ago? When I was doing the write up for the Mei drink, I had this moment where I realized that I had been missing out on this idea for YEARS. Super – Whiskey – Smash Bros. So this weekend, I got to work and made the first six cocktails. I will add more to these later, but I had to start somewhere.

Now all the drinks will be based on a Whiskey Smash. That is Whiskey, Lemon, Mint Leaves, Sugar, water. We are using Soda or juice in place of all the water for all of these recipes. Most of them will modify the source of the sugar or add an extra ingredient.

The instructions to make all of these is:

Muddle the lemons and mint in the bottom of a pint glass. Add ice, then the simple syrup, then the whiskey, and other liqueurs or liquor. Give one toss in a tumbler to mix thoroughly. Top with the fill, stir and serve in the same glass.

Super Whiskey Smash: Mario (Pint Glass w/ice)

  • 1 1/2 oz Whiskey
  • 1 oz Campari
  • 2 oz Simple Syrup
  • Two lemon wedges
  • 6-11 mint leaves
  • Topo Chico fill

My first thought here was to use Campari; being Italian and cherry red would work for Mario. He’s an old guy, and I could see him telling all the kids that they haven’t had a real cocktail till they’ve had a perfect Boulevardier. Campari does pair will with this drink, giving it a surprisingly subtle flavor.

Super Whiskey Smash: Princess Peach (Pint Glass w/ice)

  • 1 1/2 oz Whiskey
  • 1 1/2 oz Creme de Peche de Vinge
  • 1/2 oz Simple Syrup
  • Two lemon wedges
  • 6-11 mint leaves
  • Pink Lemonade fill

Her name is Peach; how could we not go with a peach flavor? But Giffard’s Peche de Vigne happens to be one of the best Peach liqueurs I’ve ever had. Add in the pink lemonade for color, and this drink becomes ultra-smooth and very accessible.

Super Whiskey Smash: Yoshi (Pint Glass w/ice)

  • 1 1/2 oz Whiskey
  • 1 1/2 oz Sour Apple Liqueur
  • 1 oz Simple Syrup
  • Two lemon wedges
  • 6-11 mint leaves
  • Topo Chico fill

This one was another easy modification. Yoshi and apples a perfect match. Sour apple flavor adds to bring out the flavors in the whiskey and complement the mint surprisingly well.

Super Whiskey Smash: Pikachu (Pint Glass w/ice)

  • 1 1/2 oz Whiskey
  • 1 oz Limoncello
  • 1 1/2 oz Simple Syrup
  • Two lemon wedges
  • 6-11 mint leaves
  • Topo Chico fill

The cocktail alone is pretty yellow. But what would make it more Pikachu? Limoncello! This change gives the sour lemon taste a more robust candied feel. I’d garnish it with a couple of cherries if I had them to give the cocktail a real Pikachu flair.

Super Whiskey Smash: Samus (Pint Glass w/ice)

  • 1 1/2 oz Whiskey
  • 1 oz Grand Marnier
  • 1 1/2 oz Orange Curacao
  • Two lemon wedges
  • 6-11 mint leaves
  • Topo Chico fill

After just finishing the history of the Power Suit Samus Tavern drink orange was a no brainer. Orange Curacao in place of the simple syrup brings the right color to the cocktail.

Super Whiskey Smash: Link (Pint Glass w/ice)

  • 1 1/2 oz Whiskey
  • 1 oz Kinky Green
  • 1 1/2 oz Midori
  • 1 oz Simple Syrup
  • Two lemon wedges
  • 6-11 mint leaves
  • Topo Chico fill

Have you met his die-hard fans? I have, and most of them also asked me for Midori in something.  Midori’s flavor and color make a real statement. The Kinky Green adds a pear flavor that brings the whole thing together. If the cocktail is too sugary, you can omit the simple syrup. I considered making this drink a blue drink, and I’ll possibly make another version at a later date.
